Personal Property at School

Malvern Valley Primary School understands that students may sometimes like to bring items of personal property to school. DET does not have insurance for personal property of staff, students and visitors; please see more information in the Personal Property Policy.

Malvern Valley Primary School does not take responsibility for items of personal property that are lost, stolen or damaged at school or during school activities. Damage to personal property brought to school is the responsibility of the owner of that property. Malvern Valley Primary School encourages students not to bring items of value to school, or alternatively obtain appropriate insurance for such items. If students are found to have brought items of significant value to school, they will be collected and stored at the office until the end of the day. The items may then be collected by the student and/or parent/carer at the end of the day.

Schools Privacy Policy

The Schools’ privacy policy informs the school community that information about students can be shared to fulfil the schools’ core functions of educating and supporting our students. The Schools' privacy policy establishes a clarified ‘need to know’ framework, where school staff share information about students with other staff who need to know as part of their role. This is consistent with Victorian privacy law.

Who this policy applies to

The policy applies to all central, region and school staff including:

• principals

• teachers

• visiting teachers

• social workers

• wellbeing staff
• youth workers

• nurses

• Student Support Service officers (SSSOs), and

• all other allied health practitioners.

This means the ‘need to know’ framework also applies to all school staff, whether employees, service providers (contractors) and agents (whether paid or unpaid) of the Department.

Ambulance Cover

Emergency contact details, family doctor, etc. are kept on school records. This information enables quick action to be taken when parents need to be contacted. It is vitally important to keep all student and family details accurate and up-to-date. Parents are asked to advise the School Office, without delay, of any changes in these details. These details are also held in the School’s Confidential Computer Database. The name of a friend, neighbour, grandparent, etc. who lives within the local area and is able to care for your child, must be provided as an emergency contact if parents are not contactable. In the unfortunate instance that the school has to call an ambulance to attend to your child, the cost is met by the family. With any serious injury we endeavour to contact the parent, guardian or emergency contact. However, there are times where this is not possible and/or the nature of the injury calls for immediate assistance. The cost of ambulance transport to hospital from school can be daunting. Families can take out Ambulance Cover with the Ambulance Service for approximately $100. More details can be obtained by calling Ambulance Victoria on 9840 3500. Some private health funds include ambulance cover. We hope that there will not be a need to call an ambulance, however it is important for people to be aware of the huge cost associated with this service and the fact that it will need to be paid by the family concerned.

Meet the Teacher- Wednesday 14th February

On Wednesday 14th February (tomorrow), Malvern Valley Primary School will be conducting Meet the Teacher Interviews for students in Grades 1-6. Classroom teachers will meet with you in person in their classroom. These interviews will allow parents and teachers to meet, and for teachers to learn more about each student in their class and their family life. Staff can then better understand each child's learning and social-emotional needs. Some suggestions of things to speak with your child's teacher about could include:

• your child's strengths

• family dynamics

• eating habits

• social connections/concerns

• extracurricular activities

• any information that you would like passed onto specialist teachers

Please note that each interview will run for 10 minutes, so please make sure you are on time, as teachers need to keep each interview in the required time slot. If you have not yet booked in, please jump onto Compass and do it today, as booking will close at 5pm tonight.

Twilight Sports Carnival

We’re looking forward to our upcoming annual Twilight Sports Carnival next Thursday (22/02). It will start at 4:30pm sharp and conclude at 6:30pm. Bring a picnic, something to sit on and enjoy the afternoon with our school community. Students are encouraged to wear their house colours. If they aren’t sure which house they are in, please ask their classroom teacher.

Curriculum day

As noted on the Compass calendar, Friday 23/02 is a curriculum day. No students come to school on a curriculum day. The teachers will be working with our Maths Association Consultant, Renee, to continue to build their understanding of our maths instructional model. TheirCare will be available for families who need it. Please visit their website https://theircare.com.au/ or phone 1300 072 410 to book your child/ren in.

Just a reminder to all families to please keep sick children home. We have a number of people in our community who are immunocompromised.
