Week #8 has finally arrived! The finish line is in sight! Hooray!

This Friday, March 13th, is officially the last day to accumulate minutes towards this year's CruzFit challenge. Just in case you've forgotten, we want to remind you of what you've been working towards these past 7 weeks:

The personal satisfaction of having taken a significant step forward in improving your health and well-being!!

Remember, in order to complete the challenge and earn your t-shirt EVERY member your team must reach their chosen CruzFit goal of 1200, 1800, or 2400 minutes of exercise. "Slackers" can't rely on their over-achieving teammates to make-up the difference for the minutes they haven't earned. More info on completing the challenge and picking-up your rewards will be emailed soon!

Keep on Truckin'!

After 7 straight weeks of challenging yourself, you may now be having a hard time staying motivated. Try setting a personal goal for this week and plan to reward yourself on Friday for meeting it! Here are a few ideas to help you squeeze in some last-minute minutes:

1. Wherever you go, take the stairs. And then take them a few more times just for kicks.

2. Park far away from your destination. Better yet, leave the car at home and walk there!

3. Meet a friend for a walk.

4. Take a lap (walking, not driving!) around the grocery store before actually starting to shop.

5. Replace a 30-minute TV show with a 30-minute bout of exercise. (You can be the star in this sitcom.)

Finally: Give yourself a pat on the back (literally) for being a CruzFit finisher! (This move doubles as a stretch!)

Free Stress-Management Workshop

"Meditation: Introduction to a Peaceful Body & Mind"

This Wednesday afternoon, from 12:10p-12:50p in the OPERS Activities Room, our UCSC Recreation program will be providing a free meditation workshop for our CruzFit participants. The class, "Meditation: Introduction to a Peaceful Body & Mind" will, be a great tool for any of you struggling with stress management and the anxiety that often accompanies the upcoming final exams week.

This will be learn-by-doing workshop so come willing and ready to participate in the relaxing stress-reduction. The instructor will lead participants into a short meditation called "Yoga Nidra", an Awake Sleep meditation in which they'll learn to leave the stressful mind behind and become present in their body and experience more peace in their lives. The workshop will be taught by UCSC Recreation's meditation instructor Pernilla Lillarose.

All participants will also have the opportunity to win some great prizes, provided by our CruzFit sponsor, Whole Foods Market. Prizes include:

2) EXERCISE TRACKING

Make sure you and your teammates are tracking your daily exercise in your Exercise-Tracker file in Google Docs. If you don't yet have one, talk to your team captain, who was given instructions on how to create and share it with you. (If you're a team captain and you didn't receive your instructions for creating the Exercise-Tracker file, please email us to request we re-send it to you.)

3) Team Leaderboards

Keep track of your team's progress in comparison with that of the other 750+ teams taking part in this year's challenge. Challenge friends to a friendly competition to reach your goals (100%) first or accumulate the highest average minutes per team member. You can view the Leaderboard file on Google Docs.
