RIPTA ASSISTS SENIORS AT MAYOR'S “DAY IN THE PARK” IN PROVIDENCE

We had the chance to meet lots of great people Sunday, August, 27th, when we took part in the annual “Mayor’s Senior Day in the Park” in Providence! Hosted by Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza and supported by community partners, the popular event drew more than 400 seniors to Roger Williams Park for a summer barbecue and a chance to receive valuable information on wellness programs and more.

We were there to provide informational material about riding with RIPTA and to answer questions about public transit options for seniors. We hope to see these new faces on the bus!

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION = INDEPENDENCE

Students from the BELL Academy, a summer program for blind and visually impaired children, were spotted on board RIPTA Route 19 recently. As part of their goal to encourage independence, the academy’s staff are exposing their students to RIPTA services, as many will use public transit for travel to their jobs and more.

“Since all of our students are visually impaired, they need to learn to use public transportation so they always have that as an option for independent travel,” said Program Coordinator Molly Faerber. “They had a great experience on the bus today.”
After arriving at Bus Stop E in Kennedy Plaza wearing their brand new RIPTA 50th Anniversary t-shirts, the students walked to the Providence Place Mall.

We like their style!

We’re giving your little ones the chance to sit behind the wheel of a bus and see what the view is like from a driver’s perspective.
