Being Pre-diabetic------- Is harmful

Hi Friends,

The notion of being pre -diabetic is a fallacy. Note; that once your blood sugar levels start rising. The process of damage to the body has started. This damage usually starts with the beta cells in the Pancreas and nerves and capillaries in the rest of the body. Please do not buy into the notion that being pre-diabetic is not so bad.
I am not a big proponent of how Diabetes is treated. I firmly believe that lifestyle changes should be the first priority instead of drugs. With that said I am encouraged by some of the 2016 guidelines that The American Diabetic Association recently released. I will list the ones that stand out and will provide the link so you can read the complete list at your leisure.
1. All adults beginning at age 45 years should be screened for diabetes regardless of weight.
2. Diabetes screening is also recommended for asymptomatic adults of any age who are overweight or obese and who have one or more additional risk factors for diabetes.
3. Lifestyle modification is a key factor in preventing and treating type 2 diabetes. In my opinion this should be # 1 on their list.
4. For those people who are morbidly obese or obese with multiple health conditions, bariatric surgery maybe an appropriate option for weight loss.
Just like your cholesterol and BMI you should know your fasting blood sugar number. A fasting blood sugar test should be completed annually as part of your preventative health care schedule.

Summer is almost here. This is a great time to put in place a weight reduction plan. Nature is you friend. The meals are lighter, lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, and being outside is so appealing. Don’t know where to start, or need support? Give me a call!
