RIPTA RIDER OF THE MONTH

Meet Connie B., a Textron employee who has been riding RIPTA to her job in Downtown Providence from her home in East Providence since 2007. Texton employees can purchase RIPTA fare products through their employer at a discounted pre-tax rate through Wageworks, a commuter tax benefits program.

“RIPTA’s website makes it convenient to locate different bus stops in each town. Sometimes, I’ll drive to the East Side of Providence and ride the bus into work from there. I love RIPTA for so many reasons! First of all, it has made my commute to work easy, stress-fee and economical! I don’t have to worry about paying high parking fees, nor do I need to spend time in the morning to find an available metered parking spot or parking lot.

Second, I love RIPTA since I have now had some of the same bus friends for several years since we are all on the same commute to the city for our jobs. It’s great to see your friends at the start of each day or at end of a work shift where you can catch up and share the day’s highlights.

Lastly, I have met some really nice bus drivers who enjoy working for RIPTA. I personally give them a lot of credit for dealing with so many people and different personalities on a daily basis. I have entrusted them these past 11 ½ years to bring me home and to work safely. As long as I am employed in the City, I will continue riding RIPTA.”

Andrade Stays True To His Roots And Rides RIPTA Bus To Championship Fight

Growing up in Providence, Demetrius “BooBoo” Andrade relied on RIPTA to take him to high school, sports and pretty much anywhere else he needed to go. And he didn’t forget his roots when he came home recently for his first-ever hometown fight at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center – an electric event that saw Andrade dominate opponent Maciej Sulecki to retain his WBO middleweight championship title. Andrade chose to arrive at the event by RIPTA bus and in the days before the fight filmed a promotional video on the bus intended to inspire young people to dream big, work hard and stay on course.
