Sunday's Service - March 31, 2019

We welcome Reverend Randy Brown, from Akron, Ohio to lead us in Worship
this week. Rev. Brown graduated from Midwestern Baptist College and has 15 years
experience in ministry. He sings with the southern gospel group, The Restored Quartet,
who will join him to share their music ministry.

There will be a love offering to support these musicians who work to share
"the message of hope found only in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."

The featured scripture verses will be from the book of Philippians
for Randy's message: Dealing with Pressure.

Garden kids will stay in Worship for this special service.

Join us this Sunday for Worship!

CG NEWS & EVENTS

Hunger in the Mahoning Valley

Just over a week left in our Food & Funds Drive!
Second Harvest provides food to area hunger-relief agencies, who in turn help community members. Of those who turned to these food programs, 32% were children and 20% were seniors. In fact, almost 30,000 children in our tri-county area are at risk for hunger--that's 1 in 4 children in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties who may not know where their next meal is coming from. We can help!

Now through April 7th, donate right here at Common Ground. Drop off monetary donations and non-perishable food items on our Food & Funds Drive table.
Every donation will help folks in our valley!

Youth Group

Last Sunday was all about trust. We spent time in the book of Luke, discussing Mary's trust in God and what it looks like to be a servant, like Jesus. Then we had a trust obstacle course, which was definitely full of surprises! Hope to see everyone this week at our normal time.

Last Sunday

We enjoyed welcoming our old friend, Greg Bowman, last Sunday to lead us in Worship. Greg came in with the big smile we are accustomed to...and a big stick! We've never had a preacher arrive with a big stick before, and it brought much laughter and interest to arrival time. Of course, Greg delivered a message full of inspiration and he used his prop well to illustrate the book of Isaiah. Thank you to Greg and his family for always being a friend to Common Ground and Goodness Grows.

Wrapping up March

Our visit to Whispering Pines was full of springtime fun. We stuffed Easter Eggs for a community Easter Egg Hunt. And...we met a puppy! That was a definite highlight of the week! Shawn and Keegan enjoyed feeding Millie the puppy treats before we headed back to GG.

This week brought all four of our classrooms - Leetonia, Mohawk and Salem, with Crestview coming tomorrow. It is so great to have all our friends back, and to be making some new friends! These folks have all worked hard on planting peach trees, constructing flower beds, weeding, working on birdhouse gourds, and more. The Thursday class got to spend time with Mrs. Kromer, so it was like old times at GG, having Kitty working in the gardens with students! We all also enjoyed Miss Sue spending a morning with us to tackle the cooking project - enchiladas and rice - with Tori, Shawn, and Dustin. That was both fun and delicious!

Next week, we are very excited for a Monday field trip to Ralph and Doris Witmer's home. Ralph is going to teach us about the care and maintenance of purple martin houses. We are so blessed by having a community of people willing to share their time and talents and we can't wait to hang out with and learn from Ralph!

GG Restaurant Fundraisers

A gigantic THANK YOU goes out to everyone who was able to support GG at the Fundraiser at BJ's this week! We deeply appreciate your efforts! We had a great time dining, visiting, and raising money for our programs. We also very much appreciate the community spirit of BJ's and their phenomenal staff. If you want to Dine for a Cause again, head to Chipotle in Boardman (near Target) on Sunday, April 28 from 4-8pm. Chipotle does not require printed flyers. You can show it on your smartphone, inform them you are supporting Goodness Grows, or you can grab a flyer (or several) from our GG table and share them with your friends. Eating dinner out is an easy way to help Goodness Grows earn money for our programs!

Jungle Jam Contest ~ Winner

Thank you to everyone who entered! The lucky winner of two jars of Jungle Jam is: Aaron Zavadil! You can watch the drawing on our GG Facebook page. Check out the photos from the BJ's event there, too.

For I was hungry and you gave me food;
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink;
I was a stranger and you took me in;
I was naked and you clothed me;
I was sick and you visited me.
I was in prison and you came to me.

.....When you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,
you were doing it to me.

Beyond Beauty: Magnolias Around the World

March 28, 6:30-7:30pm
Magnolias are among the most recognizable, ornamental flowering trees in the world. In addition to beauty, their primitive origins, unique ecological interactions, and conservation value render them as much more than “another pretty face” in the garden. These factors allow them contribute to gardens on many levels that are not often considered. Join Peter Zale, Associate Director, Conservation, Plant Breeding and Collections at Longwood Gardens, as he discusses these factors in a photographically rich exploration of magnolias around the world, as well as a short discussion of the best new magnolia hybrids for the garden. Registration requested, not required. Call Fellows Riverside Gardens at 330-740-7116. Sponsored by the John S. and Doris M. Andrews Memorial Lecture Series.
