YOGA TIP
So, you know that my daughter and I have been talking and learning about spring. We have been watching the snow melt in our back garden, and yesterday, we saw a glimpse of some greenery peeking through. We’ve been playing with our Garden Yoga Cards for Kids to learn about what we’ll see in and around our garden.
Last night, as we snuggled together in my daughter’s bed, we spontaneously made up a garden relaxation story based on the garden yoga cards. After each line, my daughter repeated my words, and then we took a deep breath:
Let’s pretend we’re lying in the garden. Let’s pretend we’re lying in the garden.
Let’s pretend we’re surrounded by flowers. Let’s pretend we’re surrounded by flowers.
I see a bird. I see a bird.
I see a tree. I see a tree.
I see a frog. I see a frog.
I see a cricket. I see a cricket.
I see a butterfly. I see a butterfly.
I see the sun. I see the sun.
I see a caterpillar. I see a caterpillar.
Good night, garden. Good night, garden.
This garden relaxation was such a cool way to reinforce my daughter’s learning that we’d experienced through movement earlier. As a teacher, I learned that scaffolding their learning is important for building meaningful connections and increasing their understanding for a topic.
What other yoga topics could you turn into relaxation stories, as well?
