Deadline: Farm Business Application Form and Letter of Intent

Glynwood’s Hudson Valley Farm Business Incubator (HVFBI) is an ideal stepping
stone for farmers ready to build their own farm enterprises. We offer access to
low-cost land, equipment, infrastructure and housing. By working one-on-one with farmers on business and financial planning, technical skills and eventual land transition, the HVFBI is taking the "long view" on supporting a new generation of farmers in the region, equipping participants with the tools and guidance to successfully get there.

Initial applications are due December 1, 2016, with the 2017 program beginning in early May. Visit our website for more information and help us spread the word!

DISPATCHES

Hudson Valley Soil Health Field Day

In August, Glynwood collaborated with the USDA‘s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Cornell Cooperative Extension, Farmscape Ecology Center and the Hudson Valley Farm Hub on a deep learning experience for 40 participants from GrowNYC’s FARMroots, Glynwood’s farm apprentice program and Farm Business Incubator, and the Farm Hub. Read more about the first-ever Hudson Valley Soil Health Field Day from our Director of Farmer Training, Dave Llewellyn.

Laura Lengnick: Resilient Agriculture

In October, our farm apprentices had the pleasure of meeting with farmer, educator and community activist Laura Lengnick for an in-depth discussion about her book, Resilient Agriculture: Cultivating Systems for a Changing Climate. During her visit, Laura also led a lively discussion with our October Farm Dinner guests, preceded by a short video interview about the fundamental ecological processes managed by sustainable farmers and ranchers to promote ecological sustainability.

UPCOMING EVENTS

4th Annual Cider Dinner

Thursday, November 17

For our last Farm Dinner of the season, guest chef Agnes Devereux of The Village TeaRoom Restaurant & Bake Shop will draw from the region’s late fall harvest as inspiration for this festive multi-course meal sourced from local farms. Cider tastings will be led by Elizabeth Ryan of Hudson Valley Farmhouse Cider and Josh Morgenthau for Fishkill Farms' brand new Treasury Cider.

The number of cider producers in New York State has increased exponentially in a few short years, and they continue to evolve and experiment with flavors and handcrafted production techniques. Read more about Glynwood's Cider Project, Cider Week and the first-ever trade association for cider makers in New York State.
