ALBUM RELEASE TOUR!

NOV 1ST KANSAS CITY at Knucklehead's
NOV 2ND ST LOUIS MO at Off Broadway

Rosie Flores, the Rockabilly Filly, the versatile virtuoso on the working girl’s guitar, strips it down to the lean meat--Working Girl’s Guitar crackles with a loose, straightforward energy fit to be played everywhere from palaces to bars.

Beginning in the late 70s with her rockabilly punk band the Screamin' Sirens, Rosie Flores has been crafting a pioneering career in the roots underground. She was an integral part of the LA New Traditionalist scene that gave rise to Dwight Yoakam and Los Lobos; toured with Flatlander Butch Hancock; and recorded with west coast roots icon Ray Campi as well as rockabilly and riot grrl icons Janis Martin and recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Wanda Jackson.

"In Working Girl’s Guitar, though, she demonstrates her versatility as a musician and songwriter. The album floats from rockabilly to surf rock to bluesy love ballad and back, all while achieving a cohesiveness that would be difficult even in a less-ambitious album." – Oxford American

"Flores is a mighty fine singer; at times she channels Liz Phair and the Breeders’ Kim Deal as much as Wanda Jackson and Loretta Lynn. The real star of the show is her sizzling guitar prowess…the perfect album to keep you shaking, rattling and rolling all winter long." - PopDose

OUT TODAY: R. RING 7" (featuring Kelley Deal)

RRing-cover-hires5387-0

The Breeders’ Kelley Deal and Ampline’s Mike Montgomery form R. Ring – an unorthodox rock duo hailing from Dayton, OH and Dayton, KY respectively. Characterized primarily by voices, guitars and keys, R. Ring is sparse, chaotic, abrasive and lulling, often within the same song.

"R. Ring is that perfectly smoky and soft Deal humming over the kind of simple guitar that makes you want to cry forever—in a good way. R. Ring makes your heart swell so hard, it hurts. Maybe I’m being overly dramatic, but I can’t help it. I dare you to not be affected by this song." ---Noisey.com

DEADSTRING BROTHERS

NOV 1ST KANSAS CITY at Davey's Uptown
NOV 3RD ST LOUIS at Crack Fox

“The band has that ragged blues-meets-country-rock groove down cold, with plenty of slashing guitar work and a rhythm section that could pulverize concrete. They come charging out of the gate with attitude and energy to spare and a relentless mid-tempo thump that never lets up.” —Harp Magazine

THE BLACK SWANS

NOV 5TH ST LOUIS at Luminary Arts

The Black Swans’ Occasion for Song is a messy long-haul of emotions dealing with the death of founding member and violinist Noel Sayre, and the aftermath of memory, shock, and loss it created.

"For all its grave intimations, Occasion For Song exhibits a true joy in creating and playing music, in finding the right notes and the right words. It's a complex, even contradictory record, not just the Black Swans' best but one of the most incisive and moving mediations on life and the loss of it in recent memory." --Pitchfork

BRAND NEW: MURDER BY DEATH'S 'BITTER DRINK, BITTER MOON'

bs200 mbd5387-0

"They've cultivated a cult-like fan base via their unique sound, which mingles elements of country, indie rock and alternative music into collections of songs that are the sonic equivalent of 'No Country For Old Men.'"--PureVolume

"The band blends dark subjects -- death, violence, booze and isolation both emotional and physical -- with glimpses of brightness borrowed from vaudeville and wild west melodrama. That's where their genre-bending begins. Turla's crackly guitar modernizes their sound, giving them a foothold among indie counterparts like Calexico and Iron and Wine." -KDHX St Louis

"On their sixth album and first for Bloodshot Records, Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon, the band comes off a bit like Tindersticks having a back-porch jam with the Pogues, bringing a sort of folk-rock noir feel to Turla’s dark, evocative, Edgar Allen Poe-goes-West lyricism." —MTV The Hive

Known for their uniquely brooding sound that frequently conjures desolate imagery, on Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon Murder By Death capture a familiar tone but also explore new territory, adding a further refined sophistication and even richer, full-bodied sound. Across Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon Sarah Balliet’s sonorous cello and Scott Brackett’s multiple instruments (backing vocals, piano, trumpet, and accordion, to name a few) weave irreplaceable accents, and Dagan Thogerson’s robust drums and Matt Armstrong’s inventive bass lines create a resounding low end.

STILL PRETTY NEW: FIREWATER'S 'INTERNATIONAL ORANGE!'

firewater bs183 cvr 1400px5387-0

Firewater's first album since 2008, International Orange!

"Bad times can make for good art, and the revolutionary feel of the early 2010s — the Occupy movement, and especially the Arab Spring — are at the heart of Firewater's International Orange! Firewater frontman Tod A. recorded this album in Istanbul and Tel Aviv during the 2011 riots, and there's a vital energy in these songs that is almost palpable. Even better, the sense of humor that was downplayed on the band's previous few albums is back in full force, giving the album's first half a bright, buoyant theatricality suggesting that International Orange! could be a musical about those tumultuous times." —iTunes

International Orange!, produced by Tod A and mixed by Tamir Muskat of Balkan Beat Box, carries on from where their previous collaboration, The Golden Hour, took off, slipping across new borders into uncharted territory. Created in Istanbul and Tel Aviv during the 2011 Arab Spring, their latest release captures the frenetic pulse of a world in the state of flux. International Orange! continues in the proud Firewater tradition of cultural and stylistic mash-ups. High-energy Turkish percussion drives jagged guitars and horns on eleven anthems of frustration and hope, movement and transformation. The songs tap into grooves as disparate as Turkish maqsoum, Punjabi bhangra, Jamaican ska, Greek rebetiko, classic punk and old-school mambo. Muskat’s mixing aesthetic draws on everything from the Bollywood excess of ‘60s-era R.D. Burman to the early dub experiments of King Tubby. Yet the team manages to meld all these flavors into a cohesive whole, as only they can do.
