Giving a Voice to the Community

When you become a member of the Lehigh Valley Arts Council, you automatically become a voice for the arts. Advocacy is important work we do together.

As arts advocates, we promote the value of the arts in our region by conducting research, expanding access, and creating opportunities to share experiences. The Arts Council gathers the data, and you give testimony by sharing a story about how the arts touched your life.

Here are some ways to amplify your voice:

Share a Story

LOGO -- The Power of Story

Storytelling can be a powerful advocacy tool. To encourage greater support of the arts we've created The Power of Story, a project that publicly shines a light on the unique relationships people have with the arts. By building a collection of voices, the testimonials becomes data that goes beyond the numbers. The Arts bring us together and tell the stories of who we are as people – now and in the future.

"My brother and I have been acting since we were 6 and 7 years old. Both experiencing different levels of “success” on Broadway and on television, we have seen first-hand the impact of the stories we’ve had the honor to tell. ...Through his work as “JJ” on ABC’s Speechless, we’ve been able to represent those so often forgotten and give a voice to the voiceless."

- Kelsey Fowler

Stories On Air

Beginning this June, WDIY is teaming up with the Lehigh Valley Arts Council to broadcast entries from The Power of Story. Every week a new story from a community member will air on our local public radio station - 88.1 FM. Broadcast schedule coming soon!

Thank Your Legislators

Keep the arts front and center by writing a thank you note to a legislator about a recent positive experience at an arts event.

Legislators approve the budget for the National Endowment for the Arts and our own state agency, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. Your testimonial will help shape an impression that the arts are essential!
