April 2018 welcomes the much-anticipated new album from the sensational vocalist andsongwriter Karen Lane. On this vibrant new body of work, Karen Lane showcases her passion for the music of Brazil in her own inimitable way. Released on 33 Records, Passarim is a unique take on a beautiful range of timeless material, both lesser known and classic: Singing in both Portuguese and English, Lane’s reimagining of this repertoire is performed in a refreshing and creative manor, of which only a performer of the highest calibre could deliver.

Raised in Perth Western Australia, Karen Lane developed her talent as a soul singer in the Kings Cross area of Sydney in the early 90’s. After a brief stint in Singapore, Lane settled in London, quickly establishing herself on the UK jazz scene and attracting the ear of the legendary chat show host Sir Michael Parkinson, who championed her music in several of his broadcasts. The influence of Karen’s Antipodean heritage on her vocals provides something distinctive and original to Passarim, setting Lane apart from her contemporaries in terms of style and technique. Her 2004 Bossa Nova album Taste, was described by leading magazine Jazzwise as “So laid back that to listen to it, you risk slipping a disc - delightful. Perfect for those balmy summer evenings - a genuinely heartfelt homage to the profound allure of bossa nova.”

For PASSARIM - her 6th studio album a brilliant band: Rob Luft-guitar, Steve Watts-bass, Andrea Trillo - drums; universally praised flautist Gareth Lockrane and Graham Harvey - piano. Lane completes her dream team by inviting two London based native Brazilian’s to lend their expertise: Rio born bass player Ricardo Dos Santos (Tania Maria, Leny Andrade, Edison Machade, João Donato) and Anselmo Netto, an internationally acclaimed percussionist from Bahia.
