Summer 2014

Welcome to our first quarterly newsletter!

THE JEWELS OF HISTORICAL ROMANCE have been busy bees this spring, and you're about to enjoy the fruits of our labor! Before we let you in on our upcoming releases, here are a few tidbits we'd like to share about what the Jewels have been up to…

Our biggest news is that the boxed set SCANDALOUS BRIDES, penned by four of the Jewels—Lucinda Brant, Cheryl Bolen, Annette Blair, and Brenda Hiatt—hit both the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists! For three of these authors, it's their first time on the list, and the Jewel sisters couldn't be prouder.

Have you joined the JEWELS SALON on Facebook yet? We hold virtual parties all year long. These are the events we've had so far in 2014:

January: THE SNOW BALL
February: BARBADOS VALENTINE'S BALL
March: FOUR-LEAF CLOVER HUNT
April: SCOTTISH SPRING FLING
May: 18th CENTURY MASQUERADE BALL

Our next event will take place this Sunday, June 22—GATHERING IN THE GLEN!

Come as one o' the wee folk! A sprite? A brownie? A faerie? Bring an enchanting escort, dance in the moonlight, and celebrate the release of two of the Jewels' Scottish historical romances…

HIGHLANDER AVENGED by Laurin Wittig

MacADAM'S LASS by Glynnis Campbell

News from the Jewels...

If you shudder at the thought of driving on the "wrong" side of the road in England, you'll be happy about the book that Cheryl Bolen, newcomer to the New York Times and USA Today lists, just finished writing. It's her first non-fiction book: "England's Stately Homes by Train"! Starting from London, it gives clear directions for reaching some of the most spectacular and elegant homes, even down to "catch Bus 94 in front of the fish and chips." And as you can see from her photo, she had a jolly good time doing the research!

Long-time New York Times and USA Today bestseller Jill Barnett feels lucky to live in the Pacific Northwest among a wealth of romance writing talent. These author friends get together at least once a year. This year, the affair was a star-studded champagne luncheon! Regulars Elizabeth Lowell/Ann Maxwell, Katherine Stone, and Lisa Kleypas were unable to attend. Julia Quinn arrived after the photo, and Christina Dodd was behind the camera. But can find some of your favorites in this great shot. From L to R back row: Cherry Adair, Susan Anderson, Kristin Hannah, Megan Chance, Debbie Macomber, Linda Lael Miller, Jill Barnett. Front row: Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick, and Stella Cameron.

If you look up the word "busy" in the dictionary, you'll find bestseller Laurin Wittig. She just released a novella, "MacAlister's Hope," in the three-Jewel anthology, THE WINTER STONE. This month she'll be launching HIGHLANDER AVENGED with a virtual Gathering in the Glen in the Jewels Salon on June 22nd. And currently she's on deadline for HIGHLANDER REDEEMED, the third book of Guardians of the Targe. She still managed to get away to attend the RTBooklovers convention in New Orleans, where she signed books at the massive book fair (and apparently did a little gambling).

Brenda Hiatt's big news (besides making the New York Times and USA Today lists) is that she married off her daughter in Key Largo. She undertook the planning of the beautiful sunset beach wedding, which was followed by an outdoor reception at her vacation home there. Between bouts of writing, she's also been kicking butt in Taekwondo, learning her poomsae (forms). She said in her recent two-day workshop she discovered muscles she never knew she had!

New York Times and USA Today bestseller Danelle Harmon has been busy overseeing the audiobook production of her de Montforte Brothers series, as well as her Heroes of the Sea series. Between directing narrators and writing sweeping historicals, she shows her German Shorthaired Pointers. This year she bred champions Marcus and Tansy, and in this photo you can see a very expectant Tansy. Danelle was thrilled when, just about a week ago, Tansy gave birth to a litter of nine adorable little puppies—five boys and four girls!

Lucinda Brant, a newcomer to the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists, has just released Book 4 in her acclaimed Roxton Family Saga series, DAIR DEVIL, which was launched in the Jewels Salon with a fabulous Masquerade Ball amid frolicking, frivolity, and virtual cake! Her Salt Hendon series is getting new covers by a world-renowned book cover illustrator, and both titles will hit the shelves at the same time as the audiobook versions. After celebrating her daughter's 21st birthday (and her Italian Greyhound Bella's 15th), she's planning to make the trek from New Zealand to the U.S. in October for the Novelists, Inc. conference.

New York Times and USA Today bestseller Cynthia Wright is learning to write on the road! After getting four of her novels transformed into audiobooks with five more planned in the coming months, Cynthia has started writing ALWAYS HIS, the second book in the Raveneaus in Cornwall series. On the home front, Cynthia and her husband Alvaro have a new Airstream trailer and have been enjoying it during holidays. They were overjoyed to be part of the beautiful outdoor wedding of their son Robert and his lovely bride! Cynthia is currently touring Fowey, Cornwall, and continuing to Brittany and Paris, soaking up research for ALWAYS HIS.

For Annette Blair, hitting the New York Times and USA Today lists this year was old hat, but it was no less exciting. Her book in the Scoundrels/Knave of Hearts series, HOLY SCOUNDREL, was nominated for Best Indie Book of 2014 in the New Adult Category at the Indie Romance Convention. TULLE DEATH DO US PART is one of Buzz Feed's Favorite TOP 25 PUNTASTIC Cozy Mysteries. And Annette is happy to announce that, despite multiple surgeries last year and a long road back to health, she's recovering nicely and happy to be writing again.

Tanya Anne Crosby first made the New York Times list in an anthology with Kathleen Woodiwiss. Now, with HIGHLAND FIRE, her first historical romance in nearly a decade, she's been on the bestseller lists for six months straight. What a great welcome home! "Once Upon a Highland Legend," her story in the three-Jewel collection THE WINTER STONE, was another first—her first time travel. The sequel to HIGHLAND FIRE, HIGHLAND STEEL, is due to be released this fall. But Tanya doesn't stop at the inside of the book. She's designed many of her own covers. Her biggest news, however, is that she's expecting grandchild number two in September. Here she is hugging Adam, her first grandbaby.

Between stowing away on her rock star husband's tour bus and caring for an ill family member, bestseller Glynnis Campbell managed to find time to get three books up this spring! Teaming up with Jewels Tanya Anne Crosby and Laurin Wittig in April, she wrote a novella, "The Outcast," for THE WINTER STONE. In May, she buried her pen name of Kira Morgan, re-edited and renamed Kira's books, and released Book 1 in The Scottish Lasses series, MacFARLAND'S LASS. And on June 22nd, the Jewels Salon will host a Gathering in the Glen to celebrate the release of Book 2, MacADAM'S LASS. While visiting her home town of Paradise, California, she attended The Highlanders and Miners Ball, where she talked her husband Rich into (and out of) his kilt!

It's been a crazy year for New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Colleen Gleason. Her Young Adult steampunk novel THE CLOCKWORK SCARAB was an instant phenomenon, and the sequel, THE SPIRITGLASS CHARADE, will hit the shelves in October. Meanwhile, she had her own young adult daughter graduate this spring. Colleen is still in the middle of major renovations on her house and kitchen, which may explain why she headed to New Orleans for the Romantic Times Convention (see the incriminating photo with beignet) and New York City for Book Expo America.

New York Times and USA Today bestseller Lauren Royal moved into her dream house at the beach last October (in the photo, you can see her family getting ready to dive into the ocean from their gazebo), but she finished unpacking only last week and is hoping to never, ever move again! She's keeping her well-loved fictional family, the Chases, busy too, working on a new book where readers can catch up with everyone (including Jewel and Rowan), as well as co-writing a Chase family Young Adult historical romance series with her daughter, Devonie. Be sure to sign up for Lauren's Friday Freebies & 99-Cent Bargain Books newsletter so you can keep up with all the latest good buys!
