Welcome to the October Edition of Orlando Tech Events

Lots of great events this month, but first I want to bring you on a detour I'm really excited about... Seriously.. bare with me for a second..

Ever heard the phrase.. "All companies die, but cities live forever"? Ever wonder why that is? Why big cities seem to become more and more successful?

Well, not so long ago cities were the most efficient locations for the production of goods. However, over the years manufacturing has continually shifted from more dense to less dense parts of the country. Consequently, our densest and most successful cities do not produce goods anymore, they produce innovation.

Growing cities are full of creative people who are really good at producing new ideas.

Why is this? Some economists attribute this to Knowledge Spillover. The idea is basically this:

The denser the concentration of creative people, the greater the opportunity to exchange ideas that lead to key innovations.

If you count up the number of tech jobs posted online, the Florida High Tech Corridor kinda looks like the 4th biggest technology region in the country. This is a good place to be, and we've all seen the evidence.

I don't know about you, but I've been amazed at the growth of the Orlando Tech Startup scene over the past few months. So much so that along with Dan McGaw and Robb Schiller I've been trying to figure out how to create a new office space just for them. Not really a coworking space and not really an incubator...

I think the time is ripe to create a startup space which encourages precisely this knowledge spillover that helps grow our city.
