Cookbook Proceeds to Support KIDS, Heifer

In October, I was contacted by Jennifer Geist the Executive Director of YALLAH (Youth Allied to Learn Lead and Help) which is an online forum sponsored by the Qatar Foundation International to moderate their finding solutions to hunger project. The Yallah forum brings together youth from around the world to learn about global issues and effect positive change in their communities.

Jennifer informed me that high school students in Qatar, the United States, and Brazil had joined together to learn about each other by exploring the various cultural practices of food preparation, service and celebration. They felt that food and cooking were central to exploring the root causes of hunger and poverty in developing action to reach beyond their borders. In the words of Priscilla Bellini, one of the YALLAH’s regional leaders, “cooking is not simply an activity in which we participate as individuals; it is a reflection of our shared experiences, our relationship to our families, to our communities, to our histories and our cultures.”

I agreed to join their online forum as a moderator so that I could help guide the students in the quest to find solutions to hunger, poverty and inequality, with the hope that they would be among the chosen few to foster change in their community and world. Working together for over two months I learned a lot from them and hopefully helped them serve as an inspiration to the approximately 450 participants in the forum.

To demonstrate what goal oriented and dedicated young people are capable of by working together, they have developed a multicultural cookbook as a way to “spread the word.” They are donating all profits from the sale of the book to organizations they feel are working around the globe to fight hunger. I am proud that Kids Can Make A Difference (KIDS) was selected as one of the recipients. The other organization selected was Heifer International.

The YALLAH cookbook is available for sale and may be purchased in the following formats:
• Buy the eBook here: http://store.blurb.com/ebooks/442397-worldkitchen
• Buy the book in softcover or hardcover here: http://blur.by/1ab3HGm. You may preview the book by selecting this version.

In purchasing the cookbook, you are not only going to enjoy mouthwatering recipes but you will also help KIDS and Heifer fulfill their missions.

Peace,

Larry Levine Co-founder of KIDS, a program of iEARN.
PS- Either the hard or soft cover versions make a wonderful holiday gift.
