B Corps Rising: From Good Products to Good Companies

The Social Enterprise Institute (SEI) hosted Jay Coen Gilbert, co-founder of B Lab, for its Lecture Series this February. B Lab is an innovative organization that has spearheaded the creation and certification of Benefit Corporations (henceforth referred to as B Corps), i.e. businesses committed to both doing well and doing good.

On Friday February 21, I had the chance to take part in the Ashoka U Exchange hosted by Brown University. Ashoka U catalyzes social innovation in higher education through a global network of entrepreneurial students, faculty and community leaders. The Ashoka U Exchange is their annual, global convening for social entrepreneurship education, bringing together 650 individuals representing over 150 institutions from 40 countries. At the Exchange, entrepreneurial students, faculty, administrators and community members come together to share action-oriented best practices on how to foster a campus-wide culture of social innovation.

SECON 2014: Reflecting on the Past, Shaping the Future

The conference will take place on March 29 - March 30th and include panel discussions with established social entrepreneurs, a pitch for change social venture competition, skill building workshops, idea labs, and case study sessions examining current social enterprises. SEEED Summit 2014

SEEED is the first national conference to focus on what is needed to build an effective social enterprise ecosystem that can drive economic development. A collaboration between Social Enterprise Greenhouse, the Social Innovation Initiative at Brown University, Worldways Social Marketing, and the SEEED at Brown student group, SEEED convenes 500+ ecosystem stakeholders including social ventures, practitioners, business leaders, academics, impact investors, students and policymakers.
