Hope your December is off to a good start. Mine is going well. I’ve been keeping busy, writing new songs with my fellow Flobots and hatching up new plots for 2014.
One of these plot involves you.
Let me explain. I love creating music with Flobots, and that remains my main focus. But in 2014 I also want to invest time and energy into making and performing music as plain ol’ Jonny 5. My hope is to build enough momentum for an album and maybe even some touring in the near future.
That's where you come in.
They say if you can find 1,000 fans, you can have a career as an artist. I hope that’s true, because my mixtape “I Hope You Like It” was downloaded by just over 1,000 of you. If you don't mind, I'd like to consider you my 1,000 fans.
What does this mean? It means that I will treat you as my inner circle. It means I will come to you first with ideas, questions, announcements, special offers, and bonus material. It means just a handful of emails like this per year. Can I count you in?
If so, here are 3 simple ways you can help me get things rolling:
1. I Hope Your Friend Likes it
Know anyone who might really enjoy “I Hope You Like It”?
Let'em know! Here's the link for the free download:
3. Wanna buy a CD?
For the month of December, I’ll be offering personalized copies of Jonny 5 & Yak: Onomatopoeia for $12 (includes shipping to US, Mexico, and Canada).
I made this album in 2001 with my friend Yak. The title, Onomatopoeia refers to the natural sounds which populate our realities. Sounds like Shhhhhh, Meow, Boom, and Creak. But also sounds like No Justice No Peace, Si Se Puede! and We Shall Overcome.
Each of us, as creative beings, has a natural sound that we are here on Earth to express. At the time we made this album, our expression took the form of a story about nonviolence and social change, which we told through the 14 tracks and 24 pages of artwork.
I hope someday to turn this album into a play.
Meanwhile, I have my shiny new pens all ready to sign and send you a copy. You can order here via credit card or paypal. Just click on the link below. Make sure to include a note telling me who to make it out to and any other instructions. If paypal doesn't give you the chance to write me a note, just email me the info directly. Or if you need to use a check, contact me about that.
In fact, with any questions regarding your order, just hit reply....
That's it for now. I really appreciate you taking the time to read through this message. I look forward to reading your comments in the survey, and to creating more music for you in 2014.
Speaking of which, I still owe you one more free mixtape, which, of course, you will be there first to hear about.
