WORLD SAVVY: Youth Engagement

Engaging the Next Generation of Global Citizens

World Savvy’s Youth Engagement programs provide opportunities for middle and high school youth to build their knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors for global competency through project-based learning, collaborative problem-solving, art & media exploration and creation, experiential and service-learning, and international exchange. All of World Savvy’s youth engagement programs also include professional development, curriculum resources, and coaching for partner educators.

From 2010-2013, World Savvy’s youth engagement programs will engage students in learning about issues connected to the theme of Sustainable Communities.

World Savvy Challenge

The World Savvy Challenge engages students in project-based learning and collaborative problem-solving around a global theme, and empowers them to take informed action to address 21st century challenges locally and globally.

Participation in the World Savvy Challenge is open to students in middle and high schools in Northern California and Minnesota, with a limited online pilot for national and global participation in 2011. LEARN MORE

Media & Arts Program

World Savvy’s Media & Arts Program (MAP) is an interdisciplinary art and media education program that empowers the next generation to think creatively and critically about the world’s greatest challenges. Local communities become classrooms as educators and their students explore complex global themes and develop 21st century skills: literacy, critical thinking, expression, empathy, and leadership. The MAP inspires and supports educators to harness the power of art and media as a lens to examine real world local and global challenges in their classrooms.

This program is available to middle and high school students and educators in the New York and San Francisco metro areas, and nationally through our Customized Consulting programs. LEARN MORE

American Youth Leadership Program in Peru

This exciting program brings together 16 U.S. youth and 3 educators of diverse backgrounds for a unique cross-cultural opportunity to explore the country and culture of Peru, as well as issues of food security and nutrition. The American Youth Leadership Program (AYLP) is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and World Savvy. Project partners are Global Citizens Network and development organization JIREH.

The AYLP – Peru is a unique opportunity for youth and educators with an interest in cross-cultural affairs, food security and nutrition to explore these themes at home and abroad through locally-based pre-trip learning, one month of travel to Peru (tentatively from June 30 – July 27, 2013), and post-trip follow-up through knowledge to action projects in home communities. This program will run for eight months through the three distinct phases listed above. Peruvian youth will be involved in the program for two weeks while U.S. students are traveling, jointly engaging in program content. LEARN MORE
