Welcome Spring Creativity!

Hello STUN

It's officially British Summer Time and we are looking forward to the next few months of activity at Sustained Up North. STUN were pleased to receive a visit from respected actor Tyrone Huggins, who took a good look around our theatre space and offices, we had an exchange of ideas, some tea and a chat. Tyrone is currently developing a companion piece to his play ‘The Honey Man’ which toured in 2012/13.
We are also excited to be working on what we are calling an ‘Ideas Engine’, a way of supporting and strengthening artists and small organisations' project ideas before they go for funding. Watch this space!

• Our office rental is available for members of the creative industries, performing arts, visual arts, graphic design, fashion, fabrication and literature, this list is not exhaustive! It’s £100 per month, all bills included. If you’re interested in being part of our Creative Hub Email us or ring 0161 232 6088.
• During April we welcome Community Arts North West, Wordsmith performance poetry showcase, Cheryl Martin, Virtual Migrants and the vocalist Sandra into our theatre space.
• We want you to apply to DIY 11 - a Professional development project BY artists FOR artists: hÅb + STUN are a collaborating partner in this project. To apply... read on

Miselo Kunda

Sustained Up North

has come a long way over the past few years. As part of the national network of Sustained Theatre hubs, Manchester, has developed a network of diverse artists which it has supported and encouraged. Last year saw the opening of its own dedicated theatre space within the Z-arts building alongside an office space committed to housing and encouraging small creative enterprises. A large part of that progress has been down to Miselo Kunda. Miselo has been Chair of STUN for the past 4 years, bringing people together, fighting for resources and planning for the future. So we were sad to receive the news that Miselo is stepping down as Chair. We would like to take a moment to thank Miselo for all of her hard work, her dedication and good humour. The organisation would not be where it is without her.

Cheryl Martin | STUN Featured Artist

How would you describe yourself and what you do?
Surprisingly hard question. I’m a freelance artist, which has always meant working across multiple disciplines. I started as a poet when I was only nine; moved into performance poetry when I moved to Manchester; from there to playwrighting, and from playwrighting to directing. And I always sang.

Tell us a bit about the work you’ll be performing at STUN.

I’ll be launching the print and ebook versions of my first solo poetry collection, published by Crocus Books/Commonword. It was in the Commonword group Identity that I first began performing...read on
