Planning a Block Party this Summer?

Are you planning a block party? Make sure you leave yourself enough time to organize the event. Applications must be filed 90 days in advance.

Applying for a block party is a two-step process. You need to fill out an online application by visiting the city's Street Activity Permit office. You must provide the CB6/CB8 district office with either a letter from the affected block association, or the signatures of 20 residents who live on the block, to demonstrate that they've consented to the block closure.

message from executive director, sharon davidson

Dear Friends of the North Flatbush Avenue BID,

Our new BID intern, Danielle has arrived just in the nick of time. Some of my workdays have begun at 8am and ended at 10pm, sometimes weekends. She is my lifesaver.!

This summer, with Danielle on the avenue helping our merchants with assistance and needs, distributing our new shopping and services guides and our the new Merchant Packets, this will leave me with additional time to promote our district this summer.

I am planning a Block Party at the 6th Avenue Triangle, one weekend in July and August. As soon as I get the necessary permits, I can start to advertise the dates. We will have local merchants setting up food tastings at the triangle and the streets will be filled with music and children playing. We might bring out the Brooklyn Boulders *rock climbing wall!

On June 21st, from 5pm to 8pm, we are partnering with Make Music NYC to provide some of our merchants with live outdoor music in front of their shops. Woodland, Hooti Couture, Eladias Kids, and Piquant are just a few with more signing up every day. Stop by North Faltbush Avenue Friday, June 21st and shop right here ! We have everything you need.

Our June 6th Annual Meeting is fast approaching and I encourage all property owners, tenants and commercial tenants to stop by and meet and greet the BID's board of directors and your neighbors. This is a great venue to get to know us. Our Silent Auciton is back with lots of great goodies, inlcuding Theater tickets, restaurant gift certificates and so much more for you to bid on.

Our new Merchant Packet is ready for distribution at our Annual Meeting. Over 140 businesses are in our district and we expect to reach all of you by the end of June. In this packet you will receive a NFBID decal to display on your window or door. This shows your support for the BID and your membership to the BID. The BID is offereing FREE advertising opportunities on our website for merchants in our district. The Packet also includes our brand new 2013-14 Shopping, dining and services guide, a handy list of important phone numbers and a pocket guide to helpful Sanitation Rules and Regulations. We also provide a handy NFBID magnet with our contact information. There is useful information from the 78th Pct and NYC Department of Transportation. Our Annual Report will also be included!

Remember, our offices are open Tues through Friday 12pm to 6pm. Feel free to stop by and pick up some guides or let us know how we can help you. I encourage you to navigate your way around our new and improved website. We have a list of helpful links and community links on our sidebar for your convenience. As always, I am here to help you,

See you on June 6th!!
