November-December 2011 News

Where does time go during the holidays? I sure as heck don't know, but suddenly we're at the end of the year and -- despite my having done a lot of prep work in October -- this newsletter is bumping right up against the New Year.

So ... What have I been up to lately? Cool stuff -- and not just because it's now winter.

Below, you'll find info on my new book, The Crimson Collection, a Frost Harrow update, a new wallpaper, and lots of other stuff to give you chills. (And not just because it's now winter.)

What are you waiting for? Time to unwrap those post-solstice presents!

This Month's Feature -- THE CRIMSON COLLECTION

Because you demanded it, I've gathered all the Crimson short stories into one kick-ass book: The Crimson Collection, now available for Kindle.

The book will be out soon in print and other e-reader formats, but, for the moment (because most of my sales are in Kindle), I decided to go exclusive for a few months and try some of Amazon's new marketing tools. (What other formats should I make my priority? Let me know!)

The collection holds all the short stories to date, including the not-previously-in-e-book "Time War" and the new-to-any-format "Crimson the Barbarian" (see illo above). The omnibus also features all of the story covers -- in color for those of you with a new Kindle Fire.

Frost Harrow Update

It's been a busy time for Frost Harrow . Since the last update, I've done two major rewrites on Book 1, Scream Lover, and started rewrites on Book 2, Die with Me. The rewrites are going well, and I'm discovering new depths and new secrets for many of the characters. I'm also bringing my writing style out of the 1990s and into the present (which was the reason for reworking the series before publishing it, you'll remember).

As I work, Book 1 is also off with my "first readers." First Readers, for those of you not in the book business, are the people with whom we authors entrust our unpublished works -- people whose opinions we value, and whom we believe might help us make the book better.

In regular publishing, an editor can serve some of these functions -- at least he/she could in the old days. Now, though, many editors are too harried to spend a lot of time developing a book (or a writer). So, even there, First Readers can be important -- and they're especially vital in micro-publishing (my playground).

What's next? More rewrites, of course! And then maybe another round of readers. If you're interested, let me know! I may use some "blind readers" (people with no foreknowledge) on these books. Then on to editing and ... publishing!

The end is in sight, but I want every book in this series to be the best they can possibly be! Keep your eyes on this newsletter and my website for ongoing updates!
