1. CYCLEFEST!!! 2. EL PRIETO TRAIL WORK DAY 3. LEADER SUMMIT REVIEW 4. VIDEO NEEDED 5. “CHILDREN OF THE DIRT” NOW ON YOUTUBE 6. MARK YOUR CALENDARS
Not sure what you’re doing on Saturday November 20th? Consider attending CycleFest on the Queen Mary in Long Beach! This year we have the honor of bringing you Chris Horner of Team RadioShack – top American finisher in the 2010 Tour de France. Come out and support the League by bidding on a fantastic selection of auction items, have a gourmet dinner, and hear both Chris Horner and two SoCal League student athletes speak. CycleFest sold out last year so don’t wait until the last minute to get your tickets. Tickets can be purchased at the SoCal League website and corporate tables of 10 are available. We have a massive auction including items such as a Trek Fuel EX 9.7 bike, Rock Shox World Cup forks, Oakley glasses signed by Troy Lee, Crank Brothers wheels, Shimano XTR drive train, SoCal Endurance (12 Hours of Temecula) season race passes, Team Duke cycling kit, and many many more!
2. EL PRIETO TRAIL WORK DAY
SoCal supporter CORBA has joined together with GUSD Composite coach Banner Moffat (founder of the “Friends of El Prieto”) and the St. Francis High School Mountain Bike Club for a huge trail work day on November 7th. For those who don’t know, El Prieto is a classic section of single track above Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena. It was burned to a crisp in the Station Fire in fall 2009 and then washed away in the heavy winter of 2009-2010. Now there is a concerted effort to bring this classic trail back! As part of our partnership with IMBA and the reality that mountain biking takes place on trails we are encouraging our clubs, coaches, and riders to get involved in maintaining the trails we use. This would be a great opportunity to get involved and learn from the best while giving back to the trails we all enjoy!
3. LEADER SUMMIT REVIEW
36 SoCal League coaches came out to Riverside the weekend of October 23-24th for the 3rd annual SoCal Leaders’ Summit. It was fantastic to see so many leaders out learning about and refining the skills and philosophy they will use to bring the great sport of mountain biking to high school clubs in SoCal! In addition to many new coaches from existing clubs there were several head coaches for brand new clubs forming including prospective clubs in Bakersfield, Burbank, the west San Fernando Valley, Julian, Murrieta, Corona, and Claremont! Huge thanks to Dave and Melody Peery and the Woodcrest Christian High School Cycling Club for being such generous hosts!
4. VIDEO NEEDED
The SoCal League is seeking video from our spring 2010 season. Any type of video related to the season: clinic video, club training video, race video, interview video, helmet cam video. We know there is a lot of video out there. If you would be willing to have video you shot used for SoCal promotional purposes please email the files or links to email@example.com. Anything we could get prior to November 1st would be appreciated!
5. “CHILDREN OF THE DIRT” NOW ON YOUTUBE
The NorCal League video, Children of the Dirt, is now on YouTube. Even though this video was made by NorCal, it is a great resource to have if you’re starting a new team, or if you want to give potential riders, parents or sponsors more information about SoCal.
