New Website Up and Running

If you haven't had a chance yet, you can check out the new CAST website at http://www.coskitowns.com. Updates are still being made, but please go to the Members page and make sure your contact info is up-to-date. You can also add events to our calendar so that other members are aware of them.

We're still accepting photos, so if you don't see any of your town's photos up there, please send them to our web designer Eric Van Herwaarden at eric@o2creative.com.

And any feedback on the new site is welcome and appreciated.

Hiring Committee for VRBO Contractor

At our January CAST meeting, the executive board decided to pursue hiring a contractor to start tracking VRBO's for CAST participating towns and implementing a plan for tracking and enforcing compliancy and uniform sales tax collection standards within the VRBO market. VRBO's are a growing, but nebulous market and very difficult to quantify. Many owners are "flying under the radar" and not complying with town codes and ordinances. Their transparency is cause for concern not only to municipalities, but to property management companies, central reservations, ski companies and DMO's to name a few.

I am looking for people interested in being on the hiring committee. The committee will be responsible for putting together a job description, determining scope of project, formulating a compensation plan, etc. I'm looking for a broad scope of experience in committee members including attorneys, finance managers, town managers, and lodging experts. Please email names of people who you think would be interested in serving to joyceb@coskitowns.com.

Is your town interested in participating?

In order to move forward with this, I need to get an idea of how many of our members are interested in participating. Once the hiring committee is in place, we will formulate a compensation plan for the contractor. We estimate that this might involve a monetary contribution from each participating town, along with a matching contribution from CAST. At this point, we foresee a salary base plus commission.

Since we cannot determine what each town's contribution will be at this time, your showing interest will not bind you monetarily until we get more information. I simply need to get an estimate. Please email me at joyceb@coskitowns.com if your town is interested in participating.

Crested Butte halfpipe to headwall

For those of you who were unable to attend the January meeting, we had a great meeting and great skiing. Photo at right was taken by Frisco councilmember Gary Wilkinson at Mt. Crested Butte.

As always, I'm open to hearing your thoughts and feedback, and about any topics you want addressed in future CAST meetings.

I look forward to seeing you in March.

Sincerely,

Joyce Burford
