Survey Results

We recently sent out surveys for the towns of Breckenridge and Mt. Crested Butte, as well as one regarding sales tax rates of our member communities. Attached are the survey results. Thanks goes to everyone who responded, your input is important in helping other CAST communities.

CAST VRBO Tax Compliance Project Update

As you already know, we temporarily hit the pause button on the VRBO tax compliance project until we worked out some legal details with regard to the agreements from our contractor, Eye Street Solutions. In the meantime, Eye Street (now called VRCompliance LLC) has been refining their application and has provided us with a status report:

We are continuing to improve the application. In software terms our team works using an agile process that breaks work into two-week iterations, setting goals and moving the application forward.

The major change that we are working on is to our vacation rental discovery method. We now start from a property and work outward by pulling in data from various sources to determine if it is a vacation rental. The core pieces of this new process are complete, and we have tested it using a large sample from Summit County. We'll have some statistically significant statistics at some point soon.

Highlights of other recent work include:
1. Developed a new site design that provides a cleaner look and feel. This new design is in the process of being applied to the site.
2. Enhanced property search within the application to provide better filtering and searching for properties and people.
3. Provided additional support to allow a user to manage and track the compliance process.

We are excited to be moving forward with communities, and look forward to incorporating your feedback into our site.

VRCompliance LLC
For a variety of reasons, we have formed a new entity specifically dedicated to conducting the business related to tax and compliance issues. That company is named VRCompliance LLC. This change does not represent a change in the software offered, the terms and prices under which it is offered, or the actual persons involved with offering it.

Legal Document Status
As you read this, the legal document package for VRCompliance is being finalized and ready for your review. We have gone through several edit/review cycles with CAST's attorneys at this point, so they should be good. We will be reaching out in the near term to re-engage with those communities who have expressed an interest. If you don't hear from us, please don't hesitate to give Dave Atherton a ring at 540-751-8001 or send him an email at dave.atherton@vrcompliance.com.

Please look for my email within the coming weeks to notify you that we are ready to proceed. Please call or email me if you have any questions at 970-485-2737 or joyceb@coskitowns.com.

Photos for the Website

I'm still looking for more photos for the CAST website, as not all of our member towns are represented. Please help out and send me your photos!! You can email them to me at joyceb@coskitowns.com.

This has been a great snow year for all of our ski towns, and it's been good to see our towns busy. Hopefully, this will be reflected in our sales tax revenues. I am working on getting out the next sales tax reports through December 31, 2010.

I look forward to seeing you all at the March meeting; we have some great speakers lined up.

Call or email me with any questions, comments or suggestions.
