October 2011 News

Happy Halloween, everyone! I've been hard at work on the Frost Harrow series of books, but the world hasn't just stopped while I've been doing that.

September saw a nice bump in my e-book sales, which you can find out about below -- and that led to something of another milestone, and you can read about that, too.

And because one can never have too much to do, I also decided to completely overhaul my website and give it a great new look. Click the link at right to see for yourself.

You'll find other tidbits and points of interest below as well. So...

Enter freely and of your own will!

ME vs. STEPHEN KING

I had a spike in my e-book sales in September, mostly thanks to Ghosts of 9/11, the collection of stories that I wrote immediately following the attack on our nation. (The stories are also contained in the print and e-book forms of Martian Knights & Other Tales.) I hope that what was started as a catharsis for me touched the hearts of other people as well. Thanks to everyone who bought the book.

Those sales allowed me to achieve a couple of milestones: one was getting higher on an Amazon/Kindle list than I'd ever gotten before (#9 in Kindle Short Stories), and that gave me a distinction that I hadn't counted on happening anytime soon -- if ever:

My book was higher on the list than a Stephen King title -- as you can see from the screen capture at left (when GO9/11 was at #10).

That lasted for a day or so, but still, it gave me something of a rush to place ahead of the acknowledged Master of Horror, and a damn fine famous writer. So, thanks for the thrill, my fans!

Frost Harrow Update

Frost Harrow is a the top of my work list right now. Of course, that doesn't mean I spend every day writing or editing. A lot of what happens on the project depends on the whim of the Muses.

Some days I find myself suddenly knowing background information on the characters and setting that I didn't before -- and the series bible is already one of the longest I've ever worked on (only the Blue Kingdoms might be longer.)

Other days the Art Muse takes over, and I find myself working on illustrations for the stories. Recently, the Muse suggested that it would be a good thing to have some character portraits to post online -- as a series preview.

A few days later, and Voila! an illo of Ivy Frost in front of stately Frost Hall emerges. You can find a larger version of the pic at my website, along with a brief character sketch.

I'll be sharing more sketches like that -- along with "flash stories" based on Frost characters and settings -- during upcoming weeks. So remember to check www.stephendsullivan.com for the newest updates.

And be sure to continue following the Frost Harrow saga right here next month.
