JLC Premieres Dental Health Video

The JLC is proud to make available to the community our new educational DVD, Keep Your Teeth Clean with Pearl the Tooth Queen. The funny and endearing eight-minute video teaches kids the importance of brushing at least twice a day, flossing at least once a day, and avoiding sugary foods. Sponsored by a grant from the Merancas Foundation and created by Grey Seal Puppets, the DVD is available for distribution. Please email us to request a copy.

JLC Leads Give Kids a Smile Day Initiative for the Charlotte Community

Give Kids a Smile Day (GKASD) is an annual nationwide, one-day volunteer initiative that provides free services to children in urgent need of dental care. On February 25, over 80 Mecklenburg County children were served by area dentists and their staffs. Although the Junior League of Charlotte has historically provided volunteer assistance for GKASD, this year the JLC led the initiative in the Charlotte community, after cuts in funding prevented the previous agency from continuing their support. The JLC also provides in-class dental health education to Pre-K students in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

To the sponsors, partners and professionals who made our Give Kids a Smile Day 2011 a success, THANK YOU!

Another Successful Ambassador’s Ball for Allegro!

The JLC has been honored to work with The Allegro Foundation and is excited to report that Allegro’s Ambassador’s Ball on January 22 was a huge success! Allegro combines movement instruction with medical and educational expertise to teach children with disabilities and enhance their quality of life. The Ambassador’s Ball was held at the Felix Sabates' Mercedes-Benz of South Charlotte to raise funds to provide weekly movement classes for Allegro’s children. The Ambassador of Ecuador to the United States and the Ambassador of Monaco to the United States along with 250 guests attended the Ball and were entertained by a wonderful performance by the Allegro children. The JLC is honored to have provided volunteers for this event. Congratulations to Allegro! Keep up the great work!
