Issue 6, September 2011

Dear Reader,

The wait is over—the sixth Mr. & Mrs. Darcy Mystery, The Deception at Lyme (Or, The Peril of Persuasion), appears on bookstore shelves today!

While the novel is officially listed in my publisher’s catalog as an October book, its release day is a few days earlier. The finished product is a beautiful book, and I thank everyone at my publisher, Tor, who contributed to its creation and helped bring “my own darling child” (as Jane Austen would say) into the world.

I also thank you, my readers, whose support and enthusiasm for the novel inspired me as I wrote it and has added to my excitement while waiting for its publication. Early reviews have been positive, and I have included a few quotes in this newsletter. (Yes, a mother boasting about her new baby—forgive me.) This will be a short issue, so that you can begin reading The Deception at Lyme for yourself. I look forward to hearing what you think.

I am guest posting on the blog Austenprose today, talking about the characters and other elements of Persuasion that inspired The Deception at Lyme. My publisher and I are also giving away several copies of Deception, along with a complete set of the six Mr. & Mrs. Darcy Mysteries published to date. Do drop in and help me celebrate Deception’s release day!

All best wishes,
Carrie Bebris

Praise for The Deception at Lyme

"Janeites will delight in the author's clever reintroduction of Austen's characters, the charm of Georgiana's budding love life, and the accurate and appealing portrait of Regency ships and sailors."
—Publishers Weekly

“Cleverly entwines the characters from Persuasion.”
—Kirkus Reviews

“Carrie Bebris once again has a hit on her hands—which will keep you guessing whodunit until the very end. . . . her best work yet!”

More information about the novel, including a synopsis, publication details, an excerpt, and a photo gallery from my research trip, can be found on my website (
