Winter 2012 News

When this newsletter was scheduled to come out in January, I had planned for it to contain the usual Happy New Year greetings and such. Instead, January turned into a very sad month for me, as I lost three friends -- one old, one new, and one family friend. Amid that, many of my obligations got rearranged as my priorities changed. Suddenly, promoting myself did not seem so important in the light of current events. Which is not to say that I stopped working during that period. Far from it.

But rather than spend the time I'd intended on Frost Harrow and other projects, instead I worked on a story that I hoped would stand as a lasting memorial to one of the people I lost -- and perhaps, by writing it, lighten my own heart as well as the hearts of people with similar losses.

Below, you'll find information about that story, as well as my other ongoing projects.

And, in the next few weeks, expect another update with lots of cool new stuff in it -- including about my elf on Barsoom project.

This Month's Feature -- IN MEMORY OF AALANDRIA

Aalandria Edmonds was an eighteen-year-old young woman of great promise. She was named after a character in The Twilight Empire, my graphic novel -- from back in the days when it was originally being serialized. Ironically, I'd only met her in the last year. But, in the short time we knew each other, we'd become friends, and I looked forward to chatting with her via e-mail and Facebook.

In January, Aalandria was killed under circumstances that remain mysterious.

I found out by going on Facebook to chat her up and finding RIP messages on her page. I felt as though my heart had been torn out -- and I can only imagine how much worse it has been for her dad and her other family and friends.

In such heartache, the only thing I could think to do was write. And so I wrote a story for her -- expressing not only my shock and outrage at her death, but also my hope for justice for the victims for such violence.

You can read that story for free on my site, here. It is dedicated not only to the memory of my friend, but to everyone who has ever lost a loved one to violence.

Frost Harrow Update

Work on Frost Harrow has slowed somewhat since the beginning of 2012, as other projects -- some unexpected -- have taken precedence.

However, despite delays, I've gotten a lot of work done. As Book One is being reviewed by my first readers, I went through the rest of the first six books, making preliminary notes on work that needs to be done, and even a few plot details I'd forgotten. (Remember, I started the series 16 years ago!)

I started rewrites on Book Two, and even created art and cover roughs for Book Three -- which you can find on my Facebook Page as well as a sneak peek below.

Additionally, just to whet your appetites, you can read about one of the characters, Grant Winslow, here.

I'm also running a Frost Harrow game (using the CHILL rules) at this year's Gary Con. (See more info below.)

Would you like to see me do the Frost Harrow books as a Kickstarter project? Drop me a line and let me know!
