CAST VRBO Tax Compliance Project Update

The VRBO Tax Compliance Project is underway, with many communities signing up with our contractor, Eye Street Solutions. If your community is interested in receiving more information on this project, please contact me at joyceb@coskitowns.com or 970-485-2737.

Proposed Legislation
Our VRBO committee chair, Tim Gagen, has approached the Colorado Municipal League with the following proposed legislation:

"Under current state law, VRBO websites are not included in the definition of agents that
need to supply information on short term rentals for compliance with state and local sales
and accommodation codes. Last year, the legislature amended §39-5-108.5 (e) C.R.S. to
add VRBO websites to the definition of “agent” who have to supply information on rentals to
the county assessor for personal property tax purposes. We would like to do the same for
sales and accommodation tax on rentals."

We Need Sponsors
CML has agreed to support our position on legislation to secure certain tax information from operators of VRBO websites, however, CAST must secure sponsorship of the legislation. We are asking our CAST communities to approach your State Representatives to see if they would be interested in supporting and sponsoring this legislation.

For more information please contact me or Tim Gagen.
