Would your Mayor be Operator for a Day?

The mayor of a community in Connecticut did more than get her feet wet on the job. She learned the day-to-day details of what goes on across her city departments by shadowing workers.

"I also think it’s very important for [operators] to ask their council members and the people who make decisions that affect their work and their budgets to come and see what they do and understand the conditions of the facilities and understand the work that’s being done."

Read more about her experience in Treatment Plant Operator magazine.

Volunteer Your Time to Benefit Certified Operators Nationwide

The Association of Boards of Certification is looking for water and wastewater supply operators to participate in Passing Score Studies.

"The Passing Score Studies allow ABC to establish passing scores that differentiate between certification candidates who are competent and deserving of certification and those who are not. To do this, ABC must call on volunteers who represent the depth, breadth, and scope of the profession to participate in discussion and activities that will result in a passing standard recommendation and expectations of exam performance."

Participation is from your home or office via the computer and phone. You will have the opportunity to network with other operators, be entered into a gift card drawing and receive ABC Certification renewal credit.

To volunteer you must submit your application by February 5. You can find out more details on ABC's website for the program.

Further Opportunities
Arizona is just one of ABC's member states participating in Beta Testing of new certification exams.

"Participation in the Beta Testing will provide you with an opportunity to preview the standardized exams that will be released in spring 2012 and assist ABC in developing legally defensible exams for certification program members’ use."

Look to your primacy agency's certification program to find out if beta testing is going on in your area.
