SoCal League New Website

The SoCal League has a new website. Take time to check it out at Look around and familiarize yourself with key areas. It is more robust than the site it replaces and allows us to keep certain information highlighted and updated easier. We hope you will enjoy it.

Turner 5 Spot Auction

Do you know what you're getting for the holidays? Do you know what you're giving? How would you like to wake up Christmas morning knowing you'd just won a brand new 2010 Turner 5 Spot handcrafted in Southern California by League sponsor Turner Bikes? Bid in this eBay auction benefiting the League and that lucky person could be you!

This auction is for a 2010 Turner 5 Spot in size Medium and color Sangria Red (photo is a sample only and is not actual bike or build kit). Bike comes with 2011 Shimano XT (3x10) drivetrain, Fox RLC fork, and Easton cockpit. Retail value of this bike is $5088.

Pump Track Raising

The SoCal League is having a "Pump Track Raising." In the grand tradition of a barn raising, the League, thanks to very generous donations of space and equipment by coaches from Woodcrest Christian High School Cycling, is building a pump track in Riverside under the guidance of mountain biking skills guru Lee McCormack.

According to Lee, "The NICA skills curriculum is all about mastery of the fundamental skills: position, range of motion, timing, power and ultimately matching the rider's energy to the shape of the trail. There is no better place to hone those skills than a pump track."

The build will be happening beginning early in the morning on Saturday January 22nd and we'll be hosting an open Jam Session and BBQ for League riders and coaches all day on Sunday January 23rd. Coaches will be getting a separate email with full information to pass along to their clubs. If you are an independent rider, contact Matt Gunnell for information. Mountain Bike Action magazine will be on scene covering the festivities!

Welcome El Monte RV

You might have noticed that many League races take place where camping is available and that, to get the most out of a race, we encourage you to stay the weekend. With that in mind we are pleased to announce that El Monte RV, America's premier nationwide RV rental company, has come on as a sponsor.

Look for opportunities throughout the season but here are a few ideas to start thinking about:

• Rent a team RV as your "base camp" for meals and meetings.
• Rent a family RV for State Champs in Los Olivos
• Rent a family RV for Sea Otter
• Rent a family RV for a spring break mountain bike trip

Be sure to keep an eye out for the "Funmover" RV the League will be using at races. It has a full garage in the back (great for moving bikes or race gear) and living space up front. We will be using it as our logistical base at all of the races!

Rider Camps

The League is putting on two one-day rider camps this season. Rider camps are a great way to learn or review skills the League way, make new friends from other clubs, and generally have a great time. Full information is available on the website. Dates are Saturday February 5th at Bonelli Park in San Dimas and Sunday February 6th at Cheseboro Canyon in Agoura Hills.

Registered Club List

Congratulations to all of the SoCal League clubs that are up and running. At this point we have 16 clubs already registered with the League. We know there are several new and returning clubs getting ready to register and most of the registered returning clubs are showing solid growth so we expect a big season in the spring. Welcome to all of our new clubs (in italic) and new League riders.

Burroughs High School MTB Club, Channel Islands High School, Corona Composite Cycling Team, Crescenta Valley Composite, Eastlake High School, Hart District Composite Mountain Bike Team, Hemet High School, Bike Bakersfield Composite Team, Newport Beach Composite, Ramona High School, Rim of the World High School, St. Francis High School, Warner High School, West San Fernando Valley Composite, Woodcrest Christian High School, Yucaipa High School

Paramount Ranch Roundup

The SoCal League has its first pledge ride planned for Saturday February 19th at the historic Paramount Ranch which is part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area in Agoura Hills.

The “Paramount Ranch Roundup” will be a great opportunity for League riders, coaches, families, and friends to get together and ride loops through a fun dirt loop which heads through an old west town movie backdrop every lap. You'll be serenaded by live western music as you pass through town and at the conclusion of the ride we’ll have a big BBQ.

Funds raised at the event will be split between the League and participating clubs so it’s a great way to boost your club’s treasury ahead of the race season.

More information coming soon but save the date!
