At the Montauk Club - November 2017

Club Now Open on Saturday Evenings!

For the first time in we don't know how long, the Club will be opened to the general membership for Saturday dinner; beginning November 4th. (Hours are the same as Friday 5:30-midnight with last order to kitchen 9:30pm).

Though the Club may close occasionally on Saturday for private events, it is hoped the additional evening will be enable members to enjoy their club more. It might even invite new ideas for events at the Club.

Do you have an idea for a Saturday event? Pass your idea onto the Front Desk or better yet stop in at the next Entertainment Committee to share your idea.

New Members welcomed into the Club this month are: Gabriel Brunswick, Juliette Campbell, Frank Derwin, Scott Jeffrey, Rev. Leonard Jones, W. Sanford Miller, and Rosalind Wallduck.

Victorian Seances - Wednesday, November 1st at 7:15pm

Tonight as the Day of Dead draws to a close, we will explore the dark history of Brooklyn's oldest private Club. We will be utilizing classic techniques and artifacts as employed during the height of the Spiritualist movement in the Victorian era. This evening will be conducted in two phases. The theme of this year's Sessions will be:
- Spirit Eradication
- Red Light Seance
Formal Evening dress suggested.
Event Fee $35 includes Champagne and Charcuterie Board

RSVP NOW -- Each séance is strictly limited to 13 Sitters.

Dinner Honoring Tim Thompson - Thursday, November 2nd

We honor Tim Thompson who served as Club president 2003-2017 and many other roles at the club over the years.

The party starts with soft jazz, cocktails, and hors d'oeuvre at 6:30pm with dinner at 7:30pm.

Please plan on joining your fellow members. Cost is $175 all inclusive.

NOTE: There is no a la carte bar or dining service on this evening.

Pre-Holiday Cocktail Party - Thursday, November 16th 7 - 8pm

The Montauk Club Membership Committee cordially invites you to attend a hospitality reception. There will be some tasty appetizers and great company.

New members this is good opportunity to mix with longtime members. Longtime members there are about 33-35 new members you have yet to meet.

Need another reason to join in? On this evening we commemorate the 116th anniversary of the first time an auto racer drove a mile in under a minute! It happened here in Brooklyn on Ocean Parkway.

Take advantage of this calm before the Holidays.

Thanksgiving Supper - Thursday, November 23rd at 2:30pm

You are cordially invited to leave the cooking and mess to the Club and share the day with family and friends.

Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres begin at 2PM with dinner seating at 3PM.

Cost is $46 per adult, $24 per child plus tax and surcharge.

RSVP by November 19th

The Club is open all Thanksgiving weekend so if you get tired of leftover head over to your Club.

Vintage Holiday Market - Sunday, November 12 in the Ballroom between 10:30am to 4pm

Member Jesse Levine has put together an interesting array of vendors just in time for the holiday season. The event is open to the Public (but only members get to shop and brunch at the Club)

Beer Club meets every the second Thursday of month at 8:00 pm in the Board Room. Next meeting November 9th.

Wine Club meets every second or third Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm. Next Meeting: Pending

Book Club meets every third Friday of the month in the Board Room. Next meeting is on Friday, November 17th at 7pm. Selection for November is In Our Time, a collection of short stories by Ernest Hemingway

Artful Dodger Poetry Readings is held the third Sunday of the month. Offering poets an open mic. Next Meeting; November 17th.

Committee Meetings

All members are welcome to join the Entertainment, House and Membership committees. In addition to these Standing committees there is also the Reciprocal and Communication committees. For more information call the Club office.

Entertainment Committee meets the first Wednesday of each month. Erin Walker-Fortin and Liz Anthony, Co-Chair.

House Committee meets the next to last Wednesday of each month. Suzy Marquard, Chair
Membership Committee meets the third Thursday of each month. David Carter, Chair

Reciprocal Clubs

The Montauk Club offers its members reciprocal privileges to a number of clubs, many of which are outside of the United States. Club members wishing to avail themselves of these agreements need to obtain a letter of introduction to present to the reciprocal club for each visit. General Clubhouse Information
* A la carte dining is available on Wednesday through Saturday beginning at 6:00 pm, with the last order to the kitchen at 9:30 pm. Friday and Saturday nights, the Club is open until midnight with last call at the bar 11:45 pm. Starting November 4th, the Club is open on Saturday nights.

▪ Our traditional Sunday brunch is served 11:00-3:00 pm, with the last order to kitchen at 2:30 pm.
▪ Happy Hour is every Wednesday 5:30-7:00 pm. Drinks are half price.
▪ For special occasions – weddings, parties, meetings, etc. – members are, of course, invited and encouraged to make individual arrangements.
