| At the Montauk Club - November 2019 | November Marks 236 years since the Brits Left But then who's counting? It has been tossed around for a few years that we should somehow commemorate New York's Evacuation Day (11/25) but it is always too close to Thanksgiving. This year, we found a way to do it. Member Dylan Yeats uncovered a play written by the Brits in 1776 during the Battle of Brooklyn. This short play was performed to much acclaim at Freddy's this August as part of the annual commemoration of this battle. Many members were dismayed to have missed it, so there will be a command preformance on November 21st! Come share in the fun -- details below. There are many other evenings planned this month from First Fridays tonight to Thanksgiving dinner on the 28th. To commemorate the 236th anniversary of the Brits evacuation of Manhattan at the end of the Revolutionary War, we present The Battle of Brooklyn, A Farce in Two Acts The play is only 20 minutes and showcases several of our members! ABOUT THE PLAY The Battle of Brooklyn, A Farce in Two Acts --Snarky old British propaganda Vastly outnumbered, General Washington led his troops in a “strategic retreat” across the East River on August 27th so they could regroup and keep fighting. But back in Brooklyn, victorious British officers put on a play making fun of the American cause at the King’s Head Tavern. Was the American Revolution a scam? Were our Founding Fathers idiots? The anonymous playwright of The Battle of Brooklyn, A Farce of Two Acts certainly thought so!. | Thanksgiving Dinner - Thursday, November 28th You are cordially invited to leave the cooking and mess to the Club and share the day with family and friends.
