 | | At the Montauk Club - September 2018 | CLUB REOPENS SEPTEMBER 5th AND NEW SEASONS BEGINS! The Fall season is getting into swing on Wednesday, September 5th as our beloved club reopens after its end of summer sprucing. Our staff is looking forward to welcoming everyone back. The new season brings with it two new monthly events: Billiards Night and Family Movie Night. Details can be found below. Saturday club hours will resume on September 29th. | The Montauk Club Collection at Brooklyn Public Library In 2016, Mary Brennan, History Committee Chair, gathered together the surviving menus, invitations, member lists and more to give to the Brooklyn Public Library. This collection has been cataloged and digitized and is now available for viewing and research. Collection is located in the Brooklyn Collection at the Central Branch at Grand Army Plaza. The collection may only be used in the library and is not available through interlibrary loan. Requests to view the collection must be made at least 48 hours in advance of visit. For information about accessing our collection click HERE | New Members Cocktail Party, Thursday - September 13th 7-8:30pm Join us as we welcome our 24 newest members. As we welcome these members we will also be launching a new presentation series The Montauk Club Makes History where we'll all learn about distinguished members and historical events that happened or originated over drinks at the Club. This month we learn about member, James B. Donovan. Born and bred in Brooklyn, Donovan became the chief negotiator in spy exchanges during the Cold War. The movie Bridge of Spies depicts one such exchange. | BILLIARDS NIGHT - Wednesday, September 19th 6:30pm to 10pm Sharpen your cue sticks and join us for an evening for pool, cards, and board games! A variety of games will be provided, or bring your favorite from home! Beer and wine by the glass will be $5 and selected appetizers will be 1/2 price. Going forward Billiards Night will be held the 3rd Wednesday of month. Future evenings are: Oct. 17th, Nov. 14th and Dec. 19th. | Screening of Bridge of Spies - Thursday, September 20th at 7:30pm Watch Tom Hanks portray Montauk Club member, James B. Donovan. | Bottle & a Bird Returns September 26th! Beginning on September 26th and continuing until Thanksgiving, every Wednesday and Thursday the weekly menu will include a whole roasted chicken with 2 sides and a bottle of select wine for $50 plus admin and tax. | Family Movie and Dinner Night - Friday, September 28th, 6-8pm Beginning this month, the last Friday of the month is designated Family Movie Night. Each month a child-friendly movie will be shown with special activities provided. Childcare will be provided so parents can enjoy dinner in the dining room while the kids are entertained in the Board Room. All updates are due by September 23rd. | Update on Miss Zimberg Dino Veronese heard from Miss Zimberg, former officer manager, club bookkeeper and Honorary member. She is doing well. Still lives In Florida and is about to sell her condo and move into an assisted living facility. She was sorry to hear about the passing of past president Joe Loughlin who hired her so long ago. She sends her warmest regards to everyone and will send her new address to us before the new directory is published.
